Privacy policy

Draft. This page describes how this website works today, but it must be reviewed by legal counsel before launch.

Serenity Moon Recovery (“we,” “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information this website collects and how it's used. Information about you as a patient is also protected by federal and state health privacy laws. Our Notice of Privacy Practices describes those protections in detail, and we'll give you a copy at admission.

Information you give us

Our forms are kept short on purpose. The contact form asks for your name, how you'd like to be contacted, your phone number or email, a general inquiry category (for example, “for a loved one”) and an optional message. The insurance verification form asks for the same contact details plus your insurance provider and, optionally, your member ID.

We don't ask for diagnoses, medications, substance use history, government ID numbers or images of insurance cards through this website. Please don't include them in a message. We'll discuss your health privately by phone.

We use what you send only to respond to you, check your benefits if you ask us to, and talk with you about treatment options. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers.

How form submissions are handled

Submissions travel over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our server, where they're checked and then sent to our admissions team by email through our email service provider. This website does not store submissions in its own database, save them in your browser, or include them in any analytics.

Insurance verification requests are also sent from our server to our intake provider, Clarion, which stores them so our admissions team can follow up. Along with what you typed, we send how you found our website: the page you were on, the page where your visit started, the website that referred you (if any), your browser type, any campaign codes or ad click IDs in those page addresses, and a call-tracking session ID if one exists. To do this, your browser remembers the first page of your visit and the referring website for the rest of that visit (in session storage, cleared when you close the tab). We don't send this information to advertisers.

Only admissions staff who need to respond can access submissions. If you become a patient, relevant information becomes part of your patient record, which is kept as the law requires.

Live chat

Our website offers a live chat, provided by our chat service provider, Clarion. Using it is optional. If you start a chat, the messages you type are sent to Clarion and to our admissions team so we can answer you.

When you open the chat, it also shares the page you're on, the page where you arrived on our site, the website that referred you (if any), your browser type, and any campaign codes in the page address. It keeps a random visitor ID and your chat session in your browser's storage so a conversation can continue if you move to another page.

Please don't share diagnoses, medications or other medical details in the chat. We'll talk about your health privately by phone. The chat isn't monitored as an emergency service. If you're in danger, call 911, or call or text 988.

Information collected automatically

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and reliability.

Some articles on our blog are published through Clarion. To show them, your browser loads them directly from Clarion's servers, which, like any website, receive your IP address and browser type. The blog doesn't send Clarion anything you type and doesn't store anything in your browser.

Google Analytics. We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4, which set cookies and send Google the pages you view, how you arrived (such as a search engine or campaign link), your browser and device type, and your approximate location derived from your IP address. We use this only to understand which pages are helpful. It never receives anything you type into a form or chat. To limit this, see Your privacy choices.

Call tracking. We use CallTrackingMetrics to learn which pages and campaigns lead people to call us. Its script may show you a different phone number for our admissions line, and it records the pages you view, how you arrived and your browser type. If you call that number, CallTrackingMetrics receives your phone number and the time and length of the call, and connects the call to your visit.

This website does not use tracking pixels or session replay tools. Besides the visit and chat storage described above, your browser stores one small, non-identifying setting so a decorative animation plays only once per visit.

Calls and text messages

When you send a form, you agree that our admissions team may contact you by phone or email about your request.

Text messages are separate and optional. We text you only if you check the text-message box, and you never need to agree to texts to get help. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help at any time. We don't use your number for marketing.

Substance use treatment records

If you become a patient, your treatment records are protected by federal law, including HIPAA and the confidentiality rules for substance use disorder records (42 CFR Part 2), and by California law. In general, we share them only with your written consent. Limited exceptions, such as a medical emergency, are explained in our Notice of Privacy Practices and at admission.
